Derlen Bakery was started in 1982 by Derek Binnie who had a dream of supplying the New Zealand market with a range of cooked pastry cases
From small beginnings working by himself and cutting every pastry by hand he has over the past 17 years helped the company to grow so that we now employ 25 people and occupy our very own 17000sq ft bakery
Derlen Bakery supplies NZ markets with their complete range of Vol au Vents Cream Horns and Sweet Short Crust Shells We also export our products to Australia and Asia
These pastry cases are listed with every supermarket chain in NZ including Woolworth’s Foodstuffs and Progressive’s stores under our “Derlen Bakery” label
In the Catering or Route Trade our pastry cases are the preferred choice by many Chefs and those involved in catering for large and small functions
The “Derlen Bakery” range of pastry products is available to the catering trade through selected distributors in every area of New Zealand as well as Cash and carry stores such as Moore Wilson Toops & Gilmours
We also supply all of the South Island from Nelson to Invercargill with fresh pies and savouries on a daily basis
Our clients include Woolworth’s, Countdown's, Pak'N Save and New World Supermarkets This range of product is labelled "Derlen Bakery" and sold either loose through their full service Delicatessens or through the Dairy Deli sections where the product is packed bar-coded and labelled
We also supply daily many Coffee Bars Dairies Restaurants and Schools
Derlen Bakery has temperature-controlled trucks that deliver our products each day
For all deliveries in the South Island we use distributors who have temperature controlled trucks and excellent systems for goods in the cold chain to ensure that our pastries reach you at the correct temperature and on time
The whole team here at the bakery is determined to produce only the very best superb golden pastry every day
All of our systems are built around supplying you the customer with the product you want when you want it
